A quintet from Hastings, England, the Teenbeats comprised of Huggy Leaver (vocals), Ken Copsey (lead guitar), Paul Thomas (rhythm guitar, vocals), Eddie Mays (bass), and Dave Blackman (drums).
They played their first live gigs in February and April 1979 in their south coast hometown. During their career they played live with The Young Bucks, U.K. Subs, Chris Farlowe, Purple Hearts, Squire and Back to Zero. Their debut a cover of the Troggs' 60's hit "I Can't Control Myself", enjoyed chart success in Canada becoming a top 10 hit. They followed this up with "Strength Of A Nation", and had 5 tracks on the Mod compilation "Uppers On The South Downs". The band went on to record further tracks for an album but these including "It'll Soon Be The Weekend" were not released until the "Mod City" 2001 compilation.
Huggy Leaver went on to become an actor, with credits including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and, more recently, TV soap EastEnders and Somers Town. Dave Blackman sadly passed away in 2009.
